Whimsical, soulful, and sweet describes today’s Slay of the Day; and it’s brought to you by the awesomely eclectic, Tank and the Bangas!
You are treated to a light and fun performance of “Boxes and Squares,” on GRAMMY Pro Buzzin’. Even more awesome, I know the lead vocalist/poet, Tarriona “Tank” Ball!
Back in my slam poetry days, I met Tarriona in 2010, during the SouthernFried Poetry Slam competition in Knoxville, TN. Representing New Orleans with Team SNO (Slam New Orleans), she won the hearts of many poets during the competition. Not to mention, Team SNO won the slam, if my memory serves me correctly.
Either way, she told me I was cute, and I could be her prom date *smiling*. She’s as sweet as she wants to be, and her sweet spirit, along with her style, carries over to Tank and the Bangas:
Originating in New Orleans, Tank and The Bangas have all the qualities that relates them, to the city that birth them but a flair that separates them as well. Their performances range from being “One of the most energetic shows you’ll ever see” to “A gospel tent in Mississippi”. Rummaging through their sound like a thrift store hippie, you’ll find the Bangas to provoke a musical reference of Rhythmic Soul and Spoken word among other genres such as Rock, Gospel, Funk, and Folk. Basically, you must follow this band! They continue to evolve, and I’m so proud to see Tank shine bright! Words cannot describe how much I love listening to “Boxes and Squares,” already; but, this performance gives me everything I need! It all plays to the vibe of the band, and it shows how amazing Tank truly is. So rightfully, they deserve Slay of the Day!
